On Tuesday, Vice President JD Vance delivered a rare public rebuke of former Republican leader Mitch McConnell for his refusal to support a key Pentagon nominee, unleashing a barrage of MAGA-fueled criticism. Shortly after Elbridge Colby was selected by President Donald Trump to be the top policy strategist at the Defense Department, McConnell became the only Republican to vote against him, sparking the verbal spat.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement that swiftly went viral on social media, McConnell stated, \u201cAmerica will not be made great again by those who are content to manage our decline.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an Xpost, Vance wrote, \u201cMitch\u2019s vote today\u2014like so much of the last few years of his career\u2014is one of the great acts of political pettiness I\u2019ve ever seen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vice president was joined by a chorus of conservatives who were tired of McConnell\u2019s conflict with and treatment of the president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nate Morris, a businessman from Kentucky, wrote on X, \u201cElbridge Colby is one of the best foreign policy thinkers in the GOP, and it\u2019s pitiful to watch Mitch McConnell continue to stand with Democrats to sabotage President Trump.\u201d \u201cFor this reason, whoever takes Mitch\u2019s place in the Senate must be a complete departure from him\u2014it\u2019s time for a change!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response to Vance\u2019s post, Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) said, \u201cI\u2019m glad things are changing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, in an X post directed at its followers, Breitbart News called McConnell \u201cChina-linked Senator Mitch McConnell.\u201d Conservative David Hardin declared, \u201cMITCH MCCONNELL IS A TRAITOR!!\u201d in Dallas, Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end, Colby was confirmed by the Senate 54-45, mostly on party line votes, with the majority of Democrats once again opposing him because they didn\u2019t agree with Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without really offering any supporting evidence, McConnell implied in his lengthy statement on Tuesday that Colby\u2019s confirmation could \u201cdo irreparable damage to the system of alliances and partnerships\u201d at the Pentagon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
