When I had daughter on my own, I decided to do the same with her. I explained how that worked and we came up with our secret word together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, I had no idea she\u2019d use it that soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Namely, my girl, Amy, splits time between me and her dad, my ex-husband Dave. In fact, she\u2019s staying with me but visits him often.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite our differences and everything that had happened between us over the years, I know that Dave is a good dad who\u2019d never harm our daughter. That\u2019s is the reason I got extremely scared when Amy used the code word while staying at her dad\u2019s one day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dave called me on the phone, saying, \u201cHey, Amy was eager to talk to you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When she got on the phone and I asked her about her day, Amy said, \u201cIt\u2019s fun. I was at the park yesterday, and I drew some pictures this morning. I drew a dog, a tree, and\u2026 But I wish I could have a blue marker so I could draw blueberries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">At that moment, my heart sank, \u201cblueberries\u201d was our secret word.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Was Amy in some sort of trouble?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t worry baby, I\u2019m on my way, and don\u2019t say anything to your dad.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/boreddaddy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/pexels-photo-1386649-1024x683.webp?ezimgfmt=rs:855x570\/rscb2\/ng:webp\/ngcb2\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-72281\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pexels.com\/photo\/photo-of-person-driving-1386649\/\">Pexels<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I got into my car right away and headed to Dave\u2019s place. When he saw me at the door, he was surprised. \u201cClaire, I wasn\u2019t expecting you,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWell, I hope you don\u2019t mind picking up Amy a bit early this time,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It looked like he wanted to protest, but he decided it would be better if he didn\u2019t make a big deal out of it, so he agreed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I could notice Dave was distant. It was as though something bothered him, but I was quick to leave the house and learn what scared my daughter that much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She gave her dad a goodbye kiss and entered the car. He was talking to someone on the phone and he was yelling so much. Then he slammed the door. I got scared, mom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s okay, baby\u201d I told her. \u201cDaddy probably had a bad day, that\u2019s it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That evening Dave called me on the phone asking about Amy. It was then that I told him why I picked her up. I explained that she had used our code word, that\u2019s how scared she was of his yelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA code word? What\u2019s that?\u201d Dave wanted to know.
